Overview

Our Bath Residential Summer Centre is based at Downside School. This classic “Harry Potter” style English boarding school is one of the oldest and most prestigious private schools in the country. Downside occupies a beautiful 500-acre estate at the foot of the Mendip Hills and offers excellent facilities. The centre is ideally situated just 25 minutes south of the city of Bath in Somerset and two and a half hours from London.

Typical activities

Core activities for Summer Course students include:

Digital Photography 

Students will learn about digital photography, including the main functions of digital cameras, producing special effects and working in different environments.

Cookery

Students learn how to cook traditional British and international food, and make a range of dishes from start to finish. Students also learn about food hygiene.

Plus
Arts and crafts, badminton, barbecue, basketball, cricket, dance, dodgeball, football, movie night, pool parties, quizzes, rugby, salsa, squash, swimming, table tennis, talent shows and volleyball.

Specialist activities

Tennis

6 hours of professional on-site tennis coaching per week. Available as the Summer Course + Tennis option and should be booked in advance.

Horse riding

6 hours of horse riding per week at an approved riding stables. Available as the Summer Course + Horse riding option and should be booked in advance.

15 hours of English lessons per week plus full programme of sports, activities and excursions.

Intensive Academic

15 hours of general English + 12 hours per week of academic subject teaching in English, including Maths, Science, Geography and History.

Accommodation

On-site residence

Single rooms, with some twin rooms and a few multi-bedded dormitories for 4–8 students. Modern communal bathrooms, shared between 6 students on average. Boys and girls are housed separately and supervised by Kings residential staff.

Meal plan

Full-board. Breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Lunch and dinner are usually hot (with packed lunches on excursion days) and there is usually a choice of at least two main courses. We can cater for vegetarian and other dietary requirements on request.
